Chief Executive

This is an exciting role leading a dynamic, high performing team delivering urgent and emergency care ambulance services across the North West.  This is a unique opportunity to bring your talents and expertise to continue to drive improvement and influence the shape of urgent and emergency care services both regionally and nationally.

Hello. We are NWAS.

Dear candidate

Welcome to North West Ambulance Service. Thank you for your interest in this fantastic opportunity as Chief Executive to join and lead our team.  This is a time of considerable change and challenge to the healthcare sector in the UK.  This microsite provides you with the opportunity to find out more about our organisation and this pivotal role in guiding the organisation through the challenges and opportunities we will face.

North West Ambulance Service provides 24 hour, 365 days a year services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.  We are the largest integrated ambulance service in the UK, with over 8000 staff and volunteers serving a diverse population of more than 7.5 million people across the North West.  Each year we receive around 1.4 million 999 calls, respond to over 1 million emergency incidents, make more than 1 million patient transport journeys and deliver the regional NHS 111 service.  We are proud to be rated ‘Good’ by CQC and Ofsted.

Our ambitious strategy focuses on ensuring we are delivering high quality inclusive care, working with partners and communities to help shape a better future. Despite the challenges for ambulances services and the wider NHS system of escalating demand, industrial action and financial constraints we have continued to move forward with improvements, leading both regional and national efforts to improve urgent and emergency care.  We have improved and sustained our position as one of the best performing ambulance services in the country across a range of metrics.

As you will see in our Strategy, our people are at the heart of everything we do.  We are committed to make this Trust a great place to work, looking after the wellbeing of our staff, investing in their development and leading them with compassion. Having achieved improvements across all of the People Promise indicators in the Staff Survey results from 2023 we are looking for a values based leader who can show compassion and strength in some of the most challenging and emotional situations.  We recognise strength in diversity and strive to create an inclusive culture, releasing the potential from our workforce whatever their background and experience.

As Chief Executive, we will look for you to lead our strategic vision and our Executive Team – enabling us to build on our strong foundations to develop future opportunities and to drive our ambition to deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time, every time. If you are inspired by our visions and values and share our passion to ensure we can give the best quality care to people when they need us most, then please look through this site to find out more about this role.
